Mulholland Drive Series
I was born in Los Angeles, California, and spent my teenage years in the San Fernando Valley suburbs in the 1960’s. This series tangentially recreates the feel, look and particularities of that era. Patterns and repetition connect the figures and the picture plane is spatially divided by the favored glass and steel architecture of the day. Bright colors playfully contrast with the narrative of lonely figures isolated and alienated. The figures in these paintings can sense their dislocation, both to their surroundings and to each other.
