Artist’s Statement

In my practice I work at organizing chaos, transforming and honoring the energy within materials. The elements informing my work are strong verticals, repetition, and language, in the form of messages revealed and concealed. The work is rich in process. Each iteration informs the next, and can include converting earlier work, or it can use the by-products of work in process.

Central to my aesthetic is paying homage to materials that are no longer in use, such as things that were once ubiquitous in our society, now rendered obsolete. Family artifacts and ephemera are a part of my obsession.

About the Artist

B.A. Art, M.A.Design (Textile Structures) UCLA. Recipient of the Gail Ritch Award for excellence in the Arts in Santa Cruz, and the Rydell Fellowship. Practitioner, author and educator in the encaustic in US, Europe and Australia. Founding partner of Wax Works West, a school for the encaustic arts in Corralitos, near Santa Cruz. In many art collections and publications in US and Europe.
