Artist’s Statement

Stampede: 100 Icelandics

I first sensed the herd. The ground rumbled as the first furry creatures rose up over the hill and spilled over into the valley, manes, tails and forelocks flying. The herd was over one hundred strong, and it took some time for the sheep dog to drive them all into the corral. They moved like flowing water, spilling into each other and becoming the landscape itself.

I’ve been told that Icelandic horses can be a hundred different colors. I’m testing that theory.
